My name is Mattanja Oosterhuis.
Because of my parents' desire to follow God and spread the good news they'd discovered, I grew up in diverse cultures being England, the United States, Ivory Coast (West Africa) and of course the Netherlands. My love for languages brought me to the study linguistics at the university of Amsterdam and here I did my bachelor, which I finished by writing up a thesis in Tanzania (East Africa). After some hesitation I decided to continue the study road and do a master, kind of a continuation of linguistics, in Luxemburg. About half a year into the master, during Christmas break in the Netherlands in dec. 2010, I unfortunately had a brain hemorrhage. Contrary to what everyone feared, I survived! And slowly took the long road to recovery. But the brain hemorrhage had had its effects. Among other things, my balance, my energy, my vision (which is now double), my memory was effected and continuing studying ceased to be an option.
Still I love God. He's very near. As He says in Romans 8:28, in all things He works for the good of those who love Him. The question 'why did this happen?' doesn't seem very relevant since I feel so safe in His daily care. I see quite some good consequences of this thing, though. Of which the existence of this blog is one ;)
