The other day I went to the sports centre, totally out of my own free will. There's a sports center attached to the fysiotherapy rooms, which is filled with lots of exciting fitness apparatuses. apparatusi. (whatever the plural is here) Containing that running thing also that I went on for a while, right. I always go on a few of these fitness things after fysiotherapy on Tuesday and Thursday. This time I did it a bit different: I went on a day without fysiotherapy, and was astonished to see the amount of people who were voluntarily working up a sweat. There's different reasons for working up a sweat in a sports center, and I know that one is to be in shape, to be healthy. to feel good. But another is to be skinny and lose weight, this curse that has fallen on especially women in the last few decades. When I saw a woman on a shaky aparatus that exists for the sole purpose of losing weight, I felt sick. What a nasty world, where you are forced by the status quo to be something. Fortunately, I have never had any big weight issues. Unfortunately, I have never been able to get tan (I either burn and peel or get sun allergy). I thought of this verse today in 1 Peter 3:3+4 in the Bible: 'your beauty should not come from outward adornment.... instead, it should be that of your inner self'. In the time this was written, the 'outward adornment' was a lot different than it is now. This verse talks about braided hair and gold jewelry, not very applicable now. But nonetheless, though the outward adornment has changed, still the challenge remains to have the beauty come from our inner self and not from outward appearances! So no sunbed for me, thank you very much.
