Last night I had this moment of intense hatred. Not because of the last reason that I mention, but because of the one before that. Sometimes I really, really wish I could somehow leave this world. But! the amazing thing is, that God SO loved this stupid, broken world that Jesus came down to it, loved the people walking around in it to pieces, gave Himself for it. It is that Jesus that I follow. Intensely. In this stupid, broken world.
Anyone out there just really hate this stupid, broken world like I do sometimes?! So much extremely sad stuff happens that just shouldn't happen. Natural disasters inflict tragedy. Accidents happen in traffic. Parents who don't know squat about raising kids and apparently don't have a whole bunch of love to give, have charge over a few little ones. People get hemorrhages at 24 (you heard this one before, huh :)).

A lot of voices in the world question the value of life. People get addicted to drugs because, oh well, life doesn't really matter. Or scans show that an unborn child has defects and should be done away with because, well, its life probably won't have any value. Many voices challenge you to earn your value. You have to be skinny. You have to wear fashion. You have to know the right people, follow the right paths, earn the right salary. If something goes different here, then that is a disaster. If you get a hemorrhage at 24, then it's the question whether your life is still worth living.
God says pretty radical stuff about the value of people. For example, the Bible says 'God SO loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life' (John 3:16). God values human life SO much, that Jesus gave His life for this human life, for people. Although I, at 26, am at home right now and living off social welfare ('uitkering'), God tells me that my life is immensely valuable. I don't have to try and earn this! |
Mattanja OosterhuisHaving grown up in diverse places on earth, I suppose I've learned to make the best of what comes my way. Such as a hemorrhage. After this bleeding in my head occurred in dec. 2010, my life has come to look different. On my blog I write about some of this. Archives
